Popcorn Chicken - Irvine

As we were eating this Taiwanese popcorn chicken combo plate at the new Taipei-night-market-inspired restaurant Popcorn Chicken in Irvine, two blondes went in, saw what was offered, then left.

One of them said to the other, "Ugh, too ethnic!"

"What's so ethnic about fried chicken and corn dogs?" I whispered to my date.

"They must've seen the gizzards-on-a-stick next to the fried chicken and the corn dogs," she said.

"Oh right, that!" I said.

Ah, gotta love the casual racism of orange county.

By the way, don't bother with the chicken heart, it's not very good. But definitely get the turnip cake, that one is excellent. Also the sausage (this is other than the popcorn chicken which I see you've ordered and also the chicken filet).

My biggest complaint about Popcorn Chicken is they don't give you enough pork gravy on the rice! It's a pet peeve of mine.

the chicken cartilage is really good, did you try it?

@tiger king - the cartilage at popcorn chicken is pretty good but head to shinsengumi for their cartilage which I find to be superior.

Greg,

Agreed! There's never enough pork gravy or heck, the pork!
